Frances Carol (Sister Carol) Hogan SSS

Funeral Details

12 noon
Tuesday 10th June 2014 at St Carthages Catholic Church, 123 Royal Pde, Parkville, VIC

Carol passed away at Mary McKillop Aged Care in Hawthorn Melbourne at about 5:30am on Monday 2 June 2014 after a battle with cancer.

A sister of the Blessed Sacrament whose life and work were themselves sacraments of a deeper and broader reality, she will be sadly missed by her family, members of her religious congregation, and those whose lives she touched through her chaplaincies, her strong commitment to equality for women in the Church as much as without and her work for justice, especially against human trafficking.

“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.”

Carol's unswerving desire for the equality of women in our church and for the dignity of the world's women and peoples is not in vain. May we stand firm in hope, awaiting the realisation of her deepest longings.

My early years at Melb Uni were shaped by the chaplaincy crew. Carol's support, willingness to share her journey and thoughts and her gentle nature still echo in my mind 30 years later. She brought joy, justice and love to all she did. Thank you. God bless.

I first met Carol in 1980 at the Catholic Chaplaincy as a first year University of Melbourne student finding the whole experience very challenging. Carol struck me as a loving and generous woman who always generated a respectful and welcoming space for students. I admired her greatly and know that the other students admired her greatly. RIP Darling Carol xxx

A truly valued and loved former colleague, who, I know, deeply touched the lives of so many people because of her sincerity, simplicity, generosity and strength. Tuis enim fidelibus, Domine, vita mutatur, non tollitur.
